Davenports Tea Room is a multi-award winning tea room situated in Cheshire, less than 2 miles from Lewis Carroll's birthplace Newton by Daresbury, Cheshire. Davenports Tea Room is themed around Alice in Wonderland with murals on the walls, such as the Mad Hatters Tea Party, collectables, chess sets and playing cards adorn the tables of this quirky tea room. Davenports Tea Room as featured on BBC Breakfast TV after winning the Tea Guild's prestigious Top Tea Place 2013 Award Standards may be considered as the best Afternoon Tea in Cheshire. Judged by anonymous tea inspectors (on several occasions) on strict guidelines across 16 categories including brewing, knowledge of tea, décor, efficiency of service, tea appearance and flavour. Davenports Tea Room received this award after gaining a near perfect score by the Tea Guild’s highly impressed judges. Marketing Cheshire also awarded Davenports Tea Room with Tastes of Cheshire Award 2013. Davenports Tea Room has built its customer base on repeat business and recommendations, with customers travelling from far and wide, especially for our popular themed afternoon tea events such as their very special Mad Hatters Tea Party. This year is significant in that it is 150 years since Alice's Adventures in Wonderland was written, Davenports Tea Room's Mad Hatters Tea Parties will be very special indeed. Situated on the A49, just 10 mins from junction 10, M56 we are only about 30 minutes from Chester, Liverpool or Manchester and less than 2 miles from Lewis Carroll's birthplace in Daresbury. The tea room is also styled on a quaint old English Tea Room with antique lace table cloths and bone china tea services, so is quintessentially a very English Tea Room
We serve over 30 speciality loose leaf tea and a wide range of artisan coffee, soft drinks, including delicious hot chocolate and ice cream milk shakes and we are fully licensed so can offer champagne, wine, locally brewed beer or cider with your meal.
Our own 1930's recipe homemade spelt scones are famous especially since we were invited to make over 15,000 of our Lavender scones at the prestigious Hankyu Department Store British Fair 2013 in Japan and in 2014 were the first tea room to be invited back in 44 years. We beat previous years record and made almost 20,000 cherry & cinnamon scones. Check out out facebook page for pictures.
Although you can come and join us for a piece of home-made cake and a drink at any time, our full Afternoon Tea is for special occasions or just meeting with friends or relatives. We serve a range of traditional Afternoon Teas served on the old fashioned china tiered cake stand, a choice of delicate sandwiches with the crusts cut off and a selection of locally made homemade delicious cakes and scones. The full Afternoon Teas should be booked at least 24hrs in advance, however please call us as we may be able to accommodate your booking with less notice.
If you are joining us for lunch we can offer you a range of delicious light lunches ranging from home-made soups, home-made Welsh Rarebit, locally made award winning pates, fabulous cheese platters to name but a few. We try to ensure that we can cater for special diets such as diabetic, gluten, wheat or dairy free and vegan, however we can not guarantee availability so it is best to call us in advance of your visit.
If you are joining us for breakfast we can offer you a range of delicious breakfasts such as great tasting bacon sandwiches, home produced free range scrambled eggs of toast with smoked salmon on a muffin, poached eggs on toast are just a few examples. On a Sunday morning we can also offer you a fantastic full English Breakfast all local and great tasting, but as it is cooked on an Aga, please call us at least 24hrs in advance.
Due to our location, we can have people arriving from a walk as we are situated within the Weaver Valley Regional Park; or cyclists as we have two cycle routes passing close to us, holidaymakers using the A49, boaters using the River Weaver or Trent & Mersey Canal and local people.
The tea room comfortably seats 54 inside with additional seating in our tea garden, taking us up to 80, though it's best to call us in advance if you are visiting in case we have a group booked in. We will always do our best however we can staff and stock our products accordingly if we know you are coming.
The Queens Room and the Alice Room are available for private functions, business meetings or training sessions and comfortably seat 30 and 14 respectively, however this will depend on the configuration. It is in a great location with good access from the M56, River Weaver, Trent & Mersey Canal, Cycle Route 70 and 5, Weaver Valley Canoe Trail and the Aston Bridle Path.
